Detroit dentist, Dr. Tory, grew up in Roseville and Sterling Heights, Michigan, less than 30 minutes from her current professional home. She is the middle of three children, and she recalls being extremely shy as a child. Her mother stayed at home to care for Dr. Tory and her siblings while her father made his career at Chrysler. She is so grateful to her parents for creating such a loving home.
After high school, she had early dreams of being a flutist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and studied instrumental music early in her time at the University of Detroit Mercy. However, her love of science and helping people led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in biological science. And after graduation, she continued on her professional path by earning her DDS at Detroit Mercy.
She began her professional career by putting her skills to use for her country — Dr. Tory served four years of active duty in the US Army as a general dentist. There she also commanded a unit of 300 soldiers while earning accolades for her expertise and leadership. Even today, she continues to use her dental training and interpersonal skills by serving as a major in the Army Reserves.
After her tours in the military, Dr. Tory decided to take her dental and medical knowledge to the next level by enrolling in the University of Louisville’s School of Dentistry and pursuing her Masters of Science in Dentistry specializing in endodontics. Following her education, she stayed in Kentucky to complete her two-year residency at the University of Louisville Hospital. With her specialization complete, Dr. Tory returned to Michigan and began working on bringing smiles to the Detroit area.
Dr. Tory spends her time away from the office with her family, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors. Her household is busy — she has a husband of nine years and two young children, along with a HUGE dog and two cats. She also gives back, contributing her time and expertise to pro bono treatments at home and humanitarian work abroad, particularly in Guatemala. Professionally, she is a member of the American Association of Endodontics, has been a guest speaker of the Detroit District Dental Society, and served as a host of a Spear Study Club.
As a woman and mother, Dr. Tory seamlessly strives to be the best dentist Detroit has to offer by blending her professional training and nurturing, caring spirit. She says her driving ethos is to treat others as you would like to be treated, and — in her practice — she strives to make treatment decisions as if she were treating her mother. That’s the kind of comfort and attention you can expect from Dr. Tory every time you work with her. She recognizes that dentists and medical professionals are in a unique position of trust, and she promises she will never betray that relational dynamic.
Dr. Tory says that many of her patients come to her when they’re out of other options.
They believe that a root canal or other endodontic procedure will involve a lot of pain and are typically very afraid when they first meet her. But thanks to her specialized training in pain control and an ability to perform procedures quickly, their experience with Dr. Tory is not nearly as scary as they feared. She finds true joy in breaking this stereotype and seeing her patients in wide-eyed disbelief when they realize how “easy” and painless it was. It may sound strange, but Dr. Tory loves performing root canals, if only for the pleasure of surpassing her patients’ expectations and giving them the relief they’ve been seeking!
It is with that result in mind that Dr. Tory seeks to treat all her patients. She is excited to meet you, get to know your story and figure out how she can work with you to solve your dental challenges, all while treating you like an important and beloved member of the Lakeshore Dental Specialists family.
