Dr. Laxmi Sukhtankar

With the motivation to keep learning to help her patients develop and grow, Dr. Sukhtankar brings nearly a decade of experience to periodontal care.

She is continuously active in research to find ways to better her methods and new findings that her patients can benefit from. She is one of the best periodontal dentists in Detroit; she aims to listen to each patient and provide exceptional care, as she understands not every patient is the same.

She completed her BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) in India from 2002-2007, followed by an MDS in Periodontics. She went on to work as an Associate Periodontist and Assistant Professor at a dental school back home. In 2015, she completed two externships at the University of Michigan Health Systems for oral surgery and hospital dentistry. In 2016, she was admitted into a Perio program at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and graduated in 2019. Dr. Sukhtankar was also a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Detroit Mercy.

Since becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2022, she has been an active Reviewer for the Journal of Michigan Dental Association.

Dr. Sukhtankar has been involved in several research projects, including a study on the prevalence of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders in Indian populations and the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on gingival tissue levels of superoxide dismutase in chronic periodontitis patients. This has led to her publication in various journals, such as Advances in Preventive Medicine and the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.

To actively ensure she is helping motivate people to better their periodontal care, she takes pride in her extensive research. Having a great rapport with her patients is vital. She aims to ensure her patients are aware of underlying diseases and conditions and helps them make the best decisions. Her mission is to help all her patients achieve healthy periodontal care in Detroit, Michigan, which will translate directly to healthy well-being.

Her favorite procedures are esthetic gum grafting, bone grafting, esthetic crown lengthening, dental implants, and sinus elevation.

Dr. Sukhtankar enjoys nature photography, cooking, traveling, and catching up with friends over brunch when she's not in the office. Dr. Sukhtankar is married to Mak, and they have one son together, Abir.
